Oceanside, CA (KSWB) -- A 12-year-old dog got stuck between two storage containers at an Oceanside school Sunday, but was later rescued and reunited with his owners.
Firefighters from Oceanside and Carlsbad used the Jaws of Life to free "Spike," who became trapped in less than a foot of space between the metal containers. Before getting stuck the Rhodesian Ridgeback dog was playing with the kids on the South Oceanside Elementary School playground on Horne Street about noon, Battalion Chief Pete Lawrence of the Oceanside Fire Department said.
Photos taken at the scene show the dog about six feet from the front opening between the heavy storage containers, which Lawrence said was narrower than the back.
Crews used their equipment to pry the containers farther apart, turned off their equipment and Spike's owners coaxed him out, Lawrence said.
After a little hesitation, Spike finally walked to freedom with his wagging tail slapping the metal containers the whole way out.
"This was a welcome break from what we normally deal with," Lawrence told FOX 5.
In his 33 years as a firefighter, Lawrence said he's seen it all, but still appreciates when fire crews can help man's best friend.
